Air Handler Installation in Syracuse, NY

What does an air handler do?

A typical Syracuse or Central New York home will have a split system installed which is made up of a gas furnace (located inside) and an air conditioner (located outside). In this scenario, the furnace fan motor is using year round to pull air from the home, and redistribute the conditioned air through every room in the house. On top of the furnace is an evaporator coil which contains a series of copper tubing. This tubing, also called the indoor coil, is where the air conditioner or heat pumps send refrigerant that has been chilled (or heated).

In a heat pump only installation (or air conditioner only if using a radiant heating system) an air handler replaces the fan motor in the furnace, and the evaporator coil. An air handler is also known as a fan coil, and it contains the indoor coil along with a fan motor.

When using a heat pump, refrigerant that has been chilled (Summer) or heated (Winter) is sent to the coil system. The fan pulls air from the home, and forces this air through the coil to condition it, and then move it back into the home.
